Officials reveal stocks, other area investments
Though none of the Mountain View City Council members reported owning stock in the city's famous commercial tenant Google, some of them do claim shares in other high-tech companies, administer private trusts or own income-generating real estate, according to the latest economic interest statements.Statements submitted by Mayor Tom Means and Council Member Laura Macias revealed no stock or other investment holdings, while the other five members each possess real estate or publicly traded stocks.
For instance, Council Member Nick Galiotto owns shares in Cisco Systems, Citigroup, Honeywell International, Pacific Gas & Electric, BMC Software and Symantec - with a combined value between $36,000 and $330,000, according to his form. Galiotto also received a $65 gift in the form of a berries sampler from the Mountain View Professional Fire Fighters union, according to his statement.
Council Member Matt Pear received more than $100,000 from the Milica Pear Trust and is a co-trustee of the Leonard R. Dumas trust, which generated between $10,001 and $100,000 in income, according to his Form 700. Pear said he has the fiduciary responsibility to look after the holdings of the trusts for its beneficiaries, and each includes properties valued at more than $1 million.
Pear also works in engineering economics and project management, he said. His statement showed he earned more than $100,000 at Pear Enterprises and less than $499 at Sidney Consulting.
While Council Member Jac Siegel didn't report any stock holdings, he receives rent from two people at Mountain View real estate he owns, his statement revealed. Siegel's property is valued between $100,000 and $1 million, according to the form.
Council Member Ronit Bryant disclosed that her husband or domestic partner works for Hewlett-Packard and earns more than $100,000. Stock held in that company is worth between $10,001 and $100,000, she reported.
And Vice Mayor Margaret Abe-Koga reported income of between $1,001 and $10,000 from part-time event planning work she did last year for Asian Americans for Community Involvement in San Jose. She and her husband own the house they live in and a nearby property that generates between $1,001 to $10,000 annually. Last year, Abe-Koga received a gift from Synopsys valued at $200 - a ticket to a Silicon Valley Leadership Group event, she said.
