Woman arrested after allegedly flinging underwear

Palo Alto police arrested a woman Friday morning after she allegedly threw her underwear at a passing pedestrian.

Shortly after 8 a.m., the woman created a disturbance at the Whole Foods Market, located at 774 Emerson Street in Palo Alto.

The woman, who refused to give police her name, took off her underwear and threw them at a mother pushing a baby stroller, said Sgt. Sandra Brown of the Palo Alto Police Department.

She also threw several cans at pedestrians walking by the store, but did not hit anyone, Brown said.

Officers arrested the woman on suspicion of assault and transported her to a local hospital for a 72-hour psychiatric evaluation, Brown said.
